Throughout his career, Jonathan Demme has professed a deep respect and appreciation for his collaborators. In fact, one of his greatest frustartions with the Swing Shift fiasco was that his collaborators' work was either thrown out altogether (the score), or damaged by studio interference (ie. cinematographer Tak Fujimoto was replaced during re-shoots).
In some departments, Demme has worked with the same people for many years, fostering his creative bonds and working relationships. At the same time, he has maintained an openness to new talent, encouraging the evolution of his directorial style, from one film to another.
