I've added a new section on The Demme Influence. For the time being, this section includes some brief quotes from Steven Soderbergh and a more lengthy section on Paul Thomas Anderson. Look for more additions, in the months to come.
Next update: two new additions to the Interviews and Articles section.
In DVD news, I recently discovered a second Philadelphia DVD. Although the content seems to be the same as the original release, the new DVD features a different cover (roughly the same image but it's gold this time, not red and blue). In all likelihood, this new version also features improved menus but I haven't viewed it so I cannot say, with any certainty. Hopefully, this isn't the highly-anticipated new DVD that was announced in the fall of 2001. I can't find any images of the DVD cover online but, if I do, I'll post one here. Anyway, I promise I'm not making this up.
According to amazon.com, The Truth About Charlie soundtrack is scheduled for release on October 15th, ten days before the film's release. I'm not sure if this is the score or a song soundtrack but the latter is more likely, as song soundtracks are generally released first.
In the current issue of Entertainment Weekly (with Stephen King on the cover), there's a contest to win passes for an advance screening of The Truth About Charlie, in the following cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. To win tickets, you must enter before October 4th. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until the film is officially released, one month from today.
Next update: a new section on filmmakers influenced by Jonathan Demme.
I've added a new section on Jonathan Demme's Crew. In its current form, it includes information on Demme's Cinematographers, Editors, Musicians, Producers, and Miscellaneous other collaborators.
I've also updated Demme on DVD with cover images for Demme Films (Not Directed by Demme) on DVD, and separate pages for DVD News, and Demme films Not on DVD.
Next update: The Jonathan Demme Book Club.
I've added an interview from Christina Banks and Michael Bliss' book, What Goes Around Comes Around, to the Interviews and Articles section. This interview was conducted during post-production on The Silence of the Lambs and was included, as an appendix, in Banks and Bliss' book.
In DVD news, DVD File reported today that George Armitage's directorial debut, Miami Blues (produced by Jonathan Demme), is coming to DVD on December 3rd.
Next update: a new section on Jonathan Demme's crew (past and present).
I've finally added a section on Jonathan Demme's films. For the time being, this only consists of a filmography but, in the coming months, I'll add content on each of his films.
I've also added a section on Demme's Future/Unrealized Projects.
Next update: an interview from the book, What Goes Around Comes Around.
I've added an incredibly long interview from The Guardian to the Interviews and Articles section. Conducted in October 1998, around the release of Beloved and Storefront Hitchcock, this interview also features an audience Q&A.
What's particularly interesting about this interview is that Demme explains the Swing Shift fiasco, once and for all. By the way, the "Bob" he cryptically mentions, in the interview, is famed screenwriter Robert Towne (Chinatown, Shampoo). The Warner Brothers film that Towne went over-budget on was his directorial debut, Personal Best.
Next update: a new section on Demme's Future/Unrealized Projects.
I've added a new section on independent film icon, and Jonathan Demme discoverer, Roger Corman.
This section includes Corman on Demme, Demme on Corman, and information on Corman's autobiography: How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime.
Next update: a lengthy and comprehensive Jonathan Demme interview from 1998.
